GSS Intercultural Workshop "Gifts from Latvia" 2

Next, we had tea break with Latvian tea and sweets prepared by Mr. Kawashima of Riga Collection.

Most of children didn’t used to be drinking herb tea in their usual life, but they drunk two or three cups of it. Well, they looked to love Latvian honey! They put in a lot of honey in their small cups. They also enjoyed jellies with chocolate and Latvian cookies.

Now, it is time to make message cards to Latvian children.

Each child got a card from Latvia at first.

They read Latvian language which they saw at the first in their life and English.

 

Then, we learned how to write a letter in English.

We asked to bring something related Japan.

Boys brought some cards of Japanese animation characters such as Pokemon.

Girls prepared Japanese paper doll, Origami and stickers made by traditional papers.

And, they brought their pictures to introduce Japanese culture.

One is a boy with Samurai costume. Another boy played Japanese chess in his picture.

Some other pictures introduced Japanese school life and Japanese spring flowers.

One of their mothers gave us Japanese fan.

We really appreciate them to brought Japanese things for our friendship between Latvia and Japan.



Writing a card is a small action. But, we believe it may bloom a big blossom in our future.

And, we are dreaming to see our friends in Latvia someday.

Till the day, we would like to keep these activities for children.

GSS Intercultural Workshop " Gifts from Latvia" 1

On Sunday, March 6, GSS Intercultural Workshop was held in Nakameguro, Tokyo.

First of all, we introduced Mr. Dmitrijs Belousovs of the embassy of Latvia in Tokyo to children. His Latvian names seemed difficult for them.

However, everybody was relaxed when he said in Japanese, “Please call me, Zima!”
His Japanese is excellent!

They learned about Latvia with many pictures.

The beautiful seasonal pictures were really impressed.

And the colorful paintings and interesting decoration of buildings in Latvia were beautiful. Especially, animal decoration such as a cat, dragon, and honey bee on the top or walls of buildings were interesting for children.

The last part of his lecture was about the national festival of songs and dances for students and children. The next festival will be held in 2015. In Latvia, they have another festival of songs and dances for people which will be held in 2013.

Before coming the day, I heard that they have surprises for us from Zima.

We looked forward them!

The animation with soft touch coloring has a warm story in beautiful nature.

Children asked me, “We want to watch more! Do they have other stories? Do they have a picture book of this story?” They were excited. I promised them to tell them about this after asking the embassy of Latvia in Tokyo.

Our room were filled with the full of beautiful harmony of traditional Latvian song.

国際交流ワークショップ「ラトビアからの贈り物」②

ワークショップ開催報告の続きです。

次は、リガコレクション・川島様にご用意いただいた

お菓子やお茶をいただくティーブレイクです。

子どもたちにはなじみの薄いハーブティーだったかもしれませんが、

意外にもおかわり続出！の大好評。

あれ？大好評なのは、どうやらラトビアの蜂蜜のようです。。。

小さなカップにたーっぷりと蜂蜜を入れる子どもたち。

すももゼリーをチョコでコーディングされたものや

トライアングルクッキーも人気でした。

いよいよラトビアの子どもたちへのメッセージづくりです。
まずはラトビアの子どもたちからのカードが、それぞれに手渡されました。
はじめてみるラトビア語と英語を一生懸命読んで？いました。


 

つづいて、英語の手紙の書き方を学びます。

「日本らしいものを持ってきてね！」という呼びかけに、

男の子たちはポケモンカードやゲゲゲの鬼太郎を紹介するもの、

女の子たちは和紙でできたシールや千代紙人形、

折り紙で折った様々なものを持ってきてくれました。

また自分たちの写真も、サムライの格好や将棋をしている時のもの、

運動会や学校を紹介するもの、菜の花畑や桜と一緒に写ったものなど、

日本色を演出するものばかりでした。

お母様の中には、日本の扇子をご持参くださった方もいました。

日本の心をみんなが持ち寄ってくれて、本当にうれしく思いました。

このような場を提供してくださったリガコレクションの川島様、

川島様とGSSを結んでくれたラトビア大使館の皆様、

急な呼びかけにもかかわらず集まってくださった保護者の皆様、

一生懸命ラトビアについて学び、カードを書いてくれた子どもたち、

そして日本にメッセージを送ってくれたラトビアの子どもたち・・・

どれが欠けても成り立たないプロジェクトでした。

カードを送る・・・小さな試みが、大きな花を咲かせることがある。

いつかラトビアのお友達に会える日まで、

みんなで大事に育てていきたいと思います。

国際交流ワークショップ「ラトビアからの贈り物」①

3月6日日曜日、GSS国際交流ワークショップ「ラトビアからの贈り物」を実施しました。


まずはラトビア大使館のDmitrijsさんを皆さんにご紹介しました

難しいラトビアのお名前に子どもたちは？？？の表情。

すかさず「ジマと呼んでください。」と流ちょうな日本語で語ってくださり、

子どもたちも安心したようです。

ラトビアはどこにあるのか、日本と比べて面積、人口はどのくらいか、
画像を使って子どもたちにとてもわかりやすく紹介してくださいました。

首都リガの季節の風景、カラフルな建物や建物を装飾する動物たちの彫刻も
子どもたちには,興味深かったようです。

最後に「うたと踊りの子どもの祭典」を紹介くださいました。

こちらは大人の「うたと踊りの祭典」（次回2013年）とは別に、

学生や子供向けに開催されているそうです。（次回2015年）

子どもたち以上に、ご見学くださった保護者の皆さんも、

ラトビアという国に大変興味をもってくださり、

中にはもっとお話を伺いたかったわ！とおっしゃっる方もいました。

実はこのワークショップ実施にあたり、ジマさんから

「サプライズがあるよ！」と事前に聞いていましたので、

スタッフも楽しみにしていました。

サプライズその１・・・ラトビアのアニメ上映

やさしいタッチのアニメーションで、美しい自然の中でのほのぼのとしたお話。

子どもたちは他のお話もある？また見たい！絵本もある？と興味津津。

大使館の方に詳細情報をきいて、またお知らせしたいと思います。

サプライズその２・・・ラトビアのうた

東大大学院の留学生・ビクターさんの力強く、美しい歌声。

ジマさんのあたたかみあふれるギターの音色。

ラトビア語の響き。

すばらしいハーモニーが会場に響き渡りました。

最初は圧倒された雰囲気の子どもたちも、後半は手拍子が・・・。

ラトビアの伝統的な歌だそうで、すっかり聞き入ってしまいました。

ラトビアの人形作家さんの作品も紹介されました。

「日本」を知ること ①

ここのところ、海外とのやりとりが加速しています。

いろいろな国の方々とおつきあいすると
コミュニケーションをとる感覚や
ものごとの進め方が違うことに気付きます。

日本人同士で当り前にやっていることが、当り前ではなくなりますが、
大事なのは、客観的に日本を見ることだといつも思います。

違いと戦うのではなく、上手に活用するために
自分の国のことを知っておくのは、
海外のことを知るのと同じくらい大事だと思います。
また自分を知るためにも、自分の国「日本」を意識して考える必要があります。

・「日本」ではふつうはこう考え、こういうやり方をすると知っておくこと。
・「日本」を知った上で、「日本」にこだわらないようにすること。
・「日本」だったらこうだよね！とやり方や文化の違いに優劣をつけないこと。

といったことに気をつけます。
そして、やり方は違っても、考えを理解してもらえるし、
気持ちは通じ合えるものだということを強く信じて、感謝すること。

心と心の交流、気持ちのつながりは万国共通です。

海外の人と心を通じ合って、ひとつのものをつくり上げたら、
今度はそれを日本の人に伝え理解していただかなくてはなりません。
それでも気をつけるところは一緒です。

話が横にそれそうになりましたので、今日はこの辺で。


追伸。
フィジー研修の出発まで1カ月を切りました。
子どもたちが「日本」とこれからどうやって向き合っていくのか、
見守りたいと思います。
